Dept. of Mathematics, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) has organised an colloquium on “Epimorphisms in the category of groups are surjective” by Prof. Sagnik Chakraborty, RKMVERI on 07 October 2026.

Title: Epimorphisms in the category of groups are surjective

Abstract

In category theory, epimorphisms are modelled on and generalize the concept of surjective set-theoretic maps. Starting with a (very) brief introduction of category theory we will first introduce epimorphisms, and then show that epimorphisms in the category of groups are surjective maps of underlying sets.
