Placements and Career Highlights of MSc (Mathematics) Students

The MSc (Mathematics) programme at RKMVERI officially began in 2008.  However, a pilot programme was run in 2006-08 at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira College with essentially the same syllabus. The placements of the batches that have graduated are given below.

2013-15

The 2013-15 batch of MSc(Mathematics) from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute had five students. Two of them have qualified for a Research Fellowship (JRF) in the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted jointly by CSIR and UGC. Three of them are presently pursuing doctoral research in Mathematics:

  • Sumit Roy has joined TIFR Bombay for a PhD
  • Aritra Ghosh has joined IISER Bhopal for a PhD
  • Tamanna Chatterjee has joined Louisiana State University

2011-13

The 2011-13 batch of MSc(Mathematics) from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute had nine students. Seven have qualified for a Research Fellowship (JRF) in the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted jointly by CSIR and UGC.

The following is their present status.

  • Surajit Biswas, Avijit Nath, Snehajit Mishra have joined IMSc Chennai for a PhD
  • Sajal Mukherjee (ranked 6th in CSIR NET) has joined RKM Vivekananda University for a PhD
  • Soumya Dey has joined IISER Mohali for a PhD
  • Kuldeep Saha has joined Chennai Mathematical Institute for a PhD
  • Arijit Nath has joined Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata for his PhD

2009-11

The 2009-11 batch of MSc(Mathematics) from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute had six students. All six have qualified for a Research Fellowship (JRF) in the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted jointly by CSIR and UGC. They have secured the following ranks at the all India level:

  •  8, 25, 32 (December 2010 examination);
  • 1, 4, 57 (June 2011 examination)

The following is their present status.

  • Sayan Das has won a fellowship to Vanderbilt University, USA (ranked 1st in June 2011 NET examination)
  • Kishalaya Saha has won a fellowship to University of Utah, USA (ranked 4th in June 2011 NET examination)
  • Saikat Das was awarded admission to Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Mumbai and RKMVERI. He has joined RKMVERI for his PhD (ranked 8th in December 2010 NET examination)
  • Ratnadeep Acharya has joined Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata for his PhD (ranked 25th in December 2010 NET examination)
  • Debopam Chakrabarty has joined Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati for his PhD (ranked 32nd in December 2010 NET examination)
  • Pranabesh Das has joined Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Delhi for his PhD (ranked 57th in June 2011 NET examination)

2008-10

The 2008-10 batch of MSc(Mathematics) students from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute had six students.

  • 2 out of the 6 have won the NBHM PhD Scholarship
  • 4 out of the 6 have won the CSIR-NET Junior Research Fellowships
  • 2 out of the 6 have qualified at GATE

The following is their present status.

  • Tathagata Banerjee has won an NBHM PhD scholarship and has joined University of Gottingen for his PhD.
  • Chandan Maity is doing his PhD at Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai (IMSc).
  • Joydip Saha has won a NET-JRF PhD scholarship and has joined the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute for his PhD.
  • Subham Sarkar is doing his PhD at ISI Bangalore.
  • Arunava Mandal is doing his PhD at NISER Bhubaneswar.

2006-08

The 2006-8 batch of MSc(Mathematics) had twelve students.

  • Pritam Ghosh obtained a scholarship to Rutgers University. He had also got scholarships to SUNY Stonybrook, University of Utah and University of Toronto. He is working on Geometric Group Theory with Prof Lee Mosher. He also won a National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) PhD scholarship.
  • Bodhisattwa Basu joined Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute for his PhD. He went to Universite Joseph Fourier, Grenoble, France, as an exchange student for a semester in Geometry-Topology. He also won an NBHM PhD scholarship.
  • Panchugopal Bikram is doing his PhD at Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai (IMSc). He also won an NBHM PhD scholarship, the NET-CSIR Junior Research Fellowship and obtained admission to Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata.
  • Prateep Chakrabarty is doing his PhD at Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai (IMSc). He has also won the NET-CSIR Junior Research Fellowship and and obtained admission to Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata.
  • Suratno Basu has joined the PhD programme at ISI (Kolkata). He has also won an NBHM PhD scholarship. item Subhabrata Das has joined the PhD programme at ISI Bangalore.
  • Arnab Sur has and obtained admission to PhD programmes at ISI (Kolkata) and IIT Kanpur. He has joined IIT Kanpur.
  • Anirban Bose has and obtained admission to PhD programmes at ISI (Bangalore) and Harish Chandra Research Institute. He has joined ISI Bangalore.
  • Manoj Chaudhuri has joined the PhD programme at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Bangalore.
  • Sabyasachi Dutta has won a CSIR-NET Junior Research Fellowship and is doing his PhD at University of Calcutta.
  • Suman Ahmed has has won a CSIR-NET Junior Research Fellowship and is doing his PhD at University of Burdwan.
  • Abhiruk Lahiri has joined ISI Kolkata for an M.Tech in Computer Science.
