Dept. of Mathematics, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) has organised an colloquia on “Random graphs and card shuffling” by Dr. Subhajit Ghosh, IIT Madras on 27 March 2026.

Title: Random graphs and card shuffling

Abstract:

I will begin by introducing the limit profile for random transposition shuffles and providing an overview of its connection to random graphs.

Then, I will move on to the transpose top-2 with random shuffle, a lazy random walk on the alternating group generated by 3-cycles of the forms (⋆, n−1, n) and (⋆, n, n−1).

The main focus will be presenting our comparison technique to obtain the limit profile for this model.

Towards the end, I will mention a separate random walk model on the alternating group that demonstrates the effectiveness of our comparison method over other existing approaches.
