Dept. of Mathematics, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) has organised an colloquia on “Mosquito borne disease outbreak : Climate change impact to Physics Informed Neural Network use” by Dr. Aniket Banerjee, Sorbonne University, Paris on 12 August 2026.

Title: Mosquito borne disease outbreak : Climate change impact to Physics Informed Neural Network use

Abstract:

Dengue, Zika and chikungunya are expanding across new territories as their vector, the tiger mosquito Aedes albopictus, tracks a warming climate. Forecasting where and when outbreaks will occur requires models that are both mechanistically faithful to mosquito ecology and disciplined by real observational data — yet the biological parameters that govern transmission, such as the biting rate, the extrinsic incubation period and mosquito survival, are precisely the ones we cannot measure directly in the field. In this talk, I present a national -scale furcating framework that couples a mechanistic Aedes albopictus population model, in the spirit of the Arbocarto approach, to a vector-to-human transmission layer, and the use of Neural Network use to predict diffusion pattern in epidemiological systems. I will explain the modelling choices behind the population and transmission layers, the structure of the inverse problem, and how PINNs let a mechanistic model “speak” to messy, heterogeneous data.
